Panther Creek's Got Talent!

It's back! Though our school talent show has been on hiatus for several years, we are instituting a VIRTUAL SHOW this year! Here are some key details:

  • The show will be aired on Tuesday December 8th at 7pm through an online event-hosting platform. Tickets will be sold to watch the event, which will be a compilation of talent videos from our student body (and perhaps staff!). Info about the actual show platform & virtual ticketing will be made available in early December.
  • This show is not a competition but rather a produced event that shows off the unique talents of the Panther Creek High School Community
  • Auditions are limited to only current Panther Creek HS students, which must be recorded off campus or in individual homes. Auditions must be electronically submitted by Tuesday Nov. 24th

    After-school Rehearsals

    After-school rehearsals are delayed until WCPSS updates policy on band and chorus groups singing and playing instruments. Stay tuned for more information.

    No product fundraisers this semester! But, we still need money...

    Like previously stated in our PC Choral Handbook, we will not be conducting a Fall Fundraiser nor collecting FairShare fees this semester. However, we still have a budget that has about $4000 in needed items like virtual sheet music/licenses, online instructional software purchases, music literacy tools, booster organization operating expenses, and other items that are needed for direct instructional and rehearsal of musical repertoire.     Choral Handbook

    All chorus students and their parents need to read the 2020 Choral Handbook . This document has specific information curtailed toward the unique nature of the fall semester. After reading, it is necessary for students to check the "mark as done" button under the Classwork tab on their Google Classroom page. We will discuss this in class on 8/19.

    Spring 2020 DC Trip Refunds

    As of 8/13/20 refunds are still in progress. We have heard from our 2 largest outstanding vendors that we should expect checks by the end of the month, at which point we will turn around immediately and issue remaining funds. Right now, it looks like the final refund should be the remaining 50% minus about $35-50 in non-reimbursable expenses.

    COVID-19 Update

    During this time of uncertainty, the district has cancelled or postponed all student events through the end of March, which includes our March 31st Spring Concert. Though many details about future choral events are certainly up in the air, I would like to encourage all of our students to SING at home-- it releases endorphins, opens affective cognition, and feels good! Keep the instruments tuned up!

    Chorus Auditions: 2020-2021

    Chorus Auditions for next year will be held on March 3-4. Students new to chorus who just want to take the level 1 course do NOT need to complete an audition...just sign up for Mixed Chorus/Vocal Music 1: 52302X0A. Additionally, ladies who have already taken Mixed Chorus can request the full-year Women's Ensemble WITHOUT an audition. For those wanting placement in the Women's Ensemble who have not previously taking high-school choir need to audition.

    All ladies who are interested in singing in the advanced Chamber Choir must generally first sing in the Women's Ensemble. However, boys who have not taken chorus before can audition into the Chamber Choir assuming good music reading skills and pitch stability.

    Auditions consist of a short melodic sight-reading exercise, a short rhythm exercise, some range-related vocalizing and either one or two short prepared songs, as follows (depending on which choir is being sought after): 1) Perform the first stanza of the Water is Wide from memory. You may use ANY accompaniment you want (live instrument, karaoke track, youtube accompaniment, etc.). Performances without accompaniment are less likely to be seriously considered. The first stanza of the song has the following lyrics:

    The water is wide, I cannot get o'er

    Neither have I wings to fly

    Give me a boat that can carry two

    And both shall cross my true love and I

    2) For GIRLS auditioning for CHAMBER CHOIR ONLY, the second piece is Vittoria, mio core! by Giacomo Carissimi, as presented in the 24 Italian Songs and Arias voice book. You need to sing the first 33 measures of this song, thought it need NOT be from memory (the Water is Wide must be memorized). You may choose between a medium high-voice version of the song, or a medium low one.

    DC Trip Update:

    More info is being sent home soon, including a detailed itinerary, WCPSS permission forms, a pack-list, etc, The final trip cost will be $650.00 which includes a healthy subsidy from Booster fundraising. The final payment amount of $200.00 is due on March. 4, and can be paid on this website under the Make a Paymentbutton.

    Winter Concerts

    The Winter Chorus Concerts are on Tuesday December 17th at both 4:30pm and 7:00pm. The earlier show has a lowered cost of $3 per ticket or 1 less punch on punch cards per family. The 7pm has the regular price of $5 per ticket (we highly encourage as many as possible to attend the 4:30, if possible, as the 7:00pm show is likely to fill up quickly). No tickets are sold in advance. Students will be fed between shows. A detailed email went out from the Choral Boosters about this event on Tues. Nov, 26.

    DC Trip Car Wash

    Year-long students should consider signing up for a slot to wash some cars! Sat. Oct. 12 :Dc Car Wash Sign Up We will need HOSES, SPONGES, BUCKETS, etc!

    Outfit Payments

    The cost of performing outfits has been updated and is as follows:

    --Pd. 3 Women's Ensemble: $72 dress plus $7 jewelry= $79 (does not including any alteration costs).

    --Pd. 4 Chamber Choir:

    >> $102 dress plus $10 jewelry= $112 (does not including any alteration costs).

    >>$145 tuxedo; future alterations are included through Savvi Formalwear

    The online cost under "Make a Payment" button to the left includes PayPal fees we pay for using their service.

    Fall Fundraiser

    We are selling Butter Braid pastries, Carolina Highland Coffee and Wooden Spoon Cookies! Orders are due Sept. 26 and delivery of products is Oct. 16. Please go to Make a Payment to access the online store, where products can be ordered online! Additional copies of the order forms are listed under Documents to the left. Print as many as you need!

    ARCHIVES

    Chorus Banquet

    On May 31st, the annual Chorus Banquet will be held from 6:30-8:30 at PCHS (commons for pot-luck dinner) and auditorium for awards and entertainment. Food can be brought in beginning at 6pm. We need everyone coming to please SIGN UP as well as to bring some food! Please visit the following Chorus Banquet Sign-Up Genius to RSVP and indicate what items you can bring! Note-- the banquet is open to all 2018-2019 chorus students, but most awards will focus on current classes and our graduating seniors.

    Booster Meeting: Thursday May 9th at 7pm

    ALL Parents invited! We will vote on the scholarship, review financials, discuss the upcoming concert and banquet, determine board member positions for next year, etc. Please come!

    Volunteers Needed

    Throughout the year, parent volunteers are needed for a variety of activities-- ranging from concert helpers to field trip chaperones. All volunteers should be registered on the 2018-2019 WCPSS volunteer registration site, available at the school in the main office (immediate left when entering the front desk area).     Winter Concerts

    Our Winter concerts are coming up: Tuesday Dec. 18th at 4:30pm and 7:00pm. Tickets are $3 at 4:30 and $5 at 7:00pm. No pre-sale tickets are available--- all are sold at the door (or families may purchase a 10-ticket Punch Card for $35-- available at school and at the concert itself). Students should report at 3:45, dressed, in the auditorium. The concerts will each last about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The Choral Boosters will feed students between performances. An email message with all of these details was previously sent to parents (~Monday, Nov. 26th). Any parents NOT receiving the monthly email should contact . For those of you who can PLEASE consider coming to the 4:30 performance, as the 7pm performance is HIGHLY likely to sell out! At the concert, we will also have FLOWERS for sale for performing students, as well as a silent auction for 3 "class-specific" baskets. More info on these baskets will be posted when it becomes available.

    Year-End Choral Banquet

    Wake Choral Festival

    On Tuesday February 27th, the PCHS Chamber Choir will perform with other WCPSS high schools in a choral performance festival being held at Edenton United Methodist Church (downtown Raleigh). The event starts at 7pm and is open/free for the public. Please come support us!

    Annual Music Performance Assessment/Adjudication Festival

    On March 7th, our Women's Ensemble and Chamber Choirs will be performing in the annual Music Performance Adjudication festival at Meredith College. A letter about this event is here: MPA/Wake Choral Festival

    We will need parent chaperones for this event (2 on the bus and about 5-8 to meet us at the festival). If you are available to help, please sign up on the program's volunteer SignUp Genius 2017-2018 Chorus Volunteer Signup. Please note, all chaperones must be approved WCPSS volunteers-- which can be processed at any WCPSS high school.

    Students with Honors Credit

    Students with honors credit (Vocal 3 and 4-- "proficient and advanced") are required to attend & critique 2 off-campus choral concerts per semester. Guidelines for honors credit is listed under Documents to the left. A list of WCPSS high school concerts is available here: Spring 2018 Concerts (Jan-May).     Spring Trip to Nashville, TN

    Cary Choral Classic

    Please come out and support our Chamber Choir and the choirs of Green Hope HS and Cary HS as we participate in the Cary Choral Classic, held at Cary HS on November 7, 2017. The Chamber Choir students will rehearse with the others on Monday Nov. 6th from 7pm-8:30pm and then during the day on Nov. 7th from 8-1:45pm. They will be fed by our choral boosters (catered lunch via Subway or similar-- no cost to our students!). Then, they will reconvene, dressed in concert attire at 6pm for a final run through in the auditorium. The concert will start at 7pm, (tickets are $5-- no punch cards for this event!), with auditorium doors opening just after 6:30pm. We'd like a good audience for this event, and as only ~3 songs in the entire concert will be "repeats", we encourage all of our choral families to come out and enjoy some freshly learned, quality musical repertoire!

    Meet the Teacher/1st Choral Booster Meeting

    Please come out on Tuesday Sept. 5th at 7pm in the chorus room. Please enter/exit through the double doors at the end of the performing arts hallway (near the modular classroom buildings-- East entrance to Panther Creek). We will discuss the many aspects of this excellent program and let you know what you can do to help us support our singers! We will also collect payments for outfits, FairShare, punch cards and donations...please plan to attend.
